The “Back Up Service” Everyone forgets they may have.

We had a meeting at the club the other evening where we were discussing member’s images, it was really popular. At one point we got on to discussing how, over time, your library of images can grow to quite a large number of images. On my own computer I now have 12Tb of images and the conversation moved on to how do you keep them safe. If your hard drive fails, or you replace your computer, how can you recover all those precious images.

We talked about the fact that there are specialised services with a subscription that allow you to back them up, and they all come with a monthly fee of course.

Then I remembered the one most people forget about, that they may already have without knowing it. Amazon Photos.

Amazon Photos is part of the Amazon Prime service and what people often do not realise is tat it includes unlimited photo backup at no extra cost. If you allow it to update videos, there is a limit on space, which is upgradeable at a charge, but the unlimited photos is included. So if you already have amazon Prime (for free deliveries or the Amazon Video service, you also have this already.

Its simple to use, you just log in to Amazon photos online;

Once logged in,

… you download the app, and tell it which folders to monitor, then it just gets on with it.

If the worst happens you still have copies of your images on the Amazon Photos “cloud” and of course if you install the apps on your phone, you can see them anytime anywhere.
